Malta – far away beer with friends

In the recent time, it becomes hard and harder to get us together for a little talk over a beer. Being constantly busy working, separated by a distance and having various different time schedules mainly caused no room to meet.

Somewhen round the New Year’s Eve when I visited Tomas, we talked about a plan how could we organize a session to meet together.

At the early March we start to arrange our plan A, a trip to Malta. Everyone was delighted and furthermore could take part on a date suggested originally.

In the evening of 20th March we finally met at the Bratislava airport. Tomas, Robo, Andrej, Eci, me and Senko, who brought also some of his homemade quince schnaps. That was actually a very fine starter.

Soon after we were already walking down the streets in Sliema, Malta looking for a nice dinner.  The next day after the delicious English breakfast at Surfside we headed to the centre of Valletta. That was a nice excursion with various lovely stops. A bit exhausted we arrived to our apartment very late. But another exciting day was a head. Boarding on a double decker we decided to see a big part of the whole island. The old Mdina was a triver and the Il Ramla beach absolutely marvellous.  Refreshed by a delicious seafood dinner  Agliolio restart we continued our day adventure.

Even though we had to get out the bus at some time, we still decided to continue in Paceville.

Unfortunately the next day, was already Sunday, the last day for our Malta excursion. Just a perfect day to relax and refill some of the energy.

Silvester in Dachstein West

Very sad days separated Christmas and the New Year’s Eve of the year 2023. With all the sorrow it was hard to decide whether to go anywhere or not.

We decided for a journey very late.

Warmly welcomed by our friends at a lovely chalet in Dachstein West – Chalet Dorf, we felt instantly better. And how good was the decision to join them, turned out in the following days. The place was really cosy, just a stone throw from a slope and the surrounding of rocky mountains is truly magnificent.

We went skiing, snowboarding in the morning, then relaxed in our private finish sauna and spent the evenings playing games and having various interesting chats together. Balsamic effect for a sore soul.

With our honey, little Berry and Diego the cat in the house, we had a lot of fun too. Dear friends thank you for another great experience, wonderful New Year’s Eve party (with unforgettable photo shooting) and lovely days spent with you.

Kornati Yachting with Friends

Ready for another great adventure!? The dates were settled, destination and yacht chosen and Tomas prepared a wonderful Itinerary booklet!

At half past one, on 19th of August we all (Tomas+Lenka, Igor+Andrejka, captain Senko and us 2) met up in Sukosan – Marina Dalmacija – the greatest marina in Croatia.

Finishing the shopping procedures, checking in and on the boat, we were about to leave the place. However, as the marina was fully occupied and Senko needed to refresh his driving skills, we slightly hit a catamaran parked on the opposite pier 😱… Hopefully nothing got damaged!😇

Obviously, it took us some time to shake off the tense situation, but leaving the land in distance we just hop in the yachting joy.⛵ Saturday’s ride was reasonably a shorter one, but included a free program evening for the crew.😊

On Sunday we arrived to the snorkelling spot (potonuli brod S Michale) and then parked on a buoy near Veli Rat marina. For Monday we had the highest peak set for a goal. Although there is no track, not even a trace, we still managed to get some amazing views from the top of otok Katina. Later on, we visited the Telasica national park and its peaceful lake Mir.

On Tuesday we were up and sailing pretty early. Our first stop was Fort Tureta on otok Kornat with it’s ruins and picturesque little church. Then we managed to get a buoy in pretty crowded Levrnaka bay, just next to the fabulous Lojena beach, which we also enjoyed a bit. Afterwards, there was a party!!!  📣💃🎵

The next day we headed first to see the otok Lavsa and had a break in Konoba Larus. There, we decided to go and buy some more stuff in Piskera marina. For the evening we parked by uvala Korobacna, not the calmest one.

Sixth day on the sea we sailed along the east side of otok Kornat to the north. There we stopped for a lunch in a tiny bay, but continued further to ACI Marina Zut. Here I drank some water from the shower rooms and went off for the rest 🤢…  Unfortunately, cause Friday was a lovely day too. The highlight surely was otok Vrgada with its truly real sandy beaches. But the next stop was the unpopular one – petrol station. After an hour or so, we finally got what we needed and despite it was close, we did not crash. Furthermore, we came back to Dalmacija marina and parked the yacht in some great manners!

However, this was the last part of our great Kornati adventure. Thanks God! We all survived and even returned the yacht completely. Thank you, captains and the crew!🤗👍 Let’s repeat soon!

Klippitztörl – more than a weekend

Although this short vacation was planned well in advanced, it did not start that smooth at all.

On Thursday morning, 29th of June, I had to be in Bratislava for a first meeting with customer, which at least finished an hour earlier as scheduled.

Afterwards I was free to drive back to Graz. Arriving at late afternoon, packing all the stuff and the new bikes on a new premium bike rack for the first time, we were ready to leave for Klippitztörl.

Luckily Mr. Münzer was very nice and came to pick us up from the car park even at 8:00 pm.

Finally, our short vacation could begin. Welcomed by our friends, we had a lovely and cosy evening.

Friday was already a sport’s day and we managed to cycle some 10kms with 500m uphill.

As Saturday was little bit rainy, we did just 1 hour hiking and then rested in our wonderful Panorama Hütte facilitated with sauna. Sunday weather however was sunnier, so we could accomplish the almost 20kms great mountain bike route in Reichenfels stretching up to 1400m before falling down to the village again.

Simi & Emi

For the second weekend of February, we were honoured by the wedding invitation from Simi and Emi. This lovely couple are especially very good friends of Miska, back from the University days as well as our true friends in Graz 😊

The winter wedding theme perfectly fitted to the atmosphere of its location. Nicely renovated baroque Halic castle (situated near Lucenec – south of Slovakia) provided charming fairy-taleish premises with an 18th century feeling and a bit of nobles included.

Luckily we were on time for the official ceremony, which took place in the near by church. There we listened to extensive interesting information about the real values of life from a priest, friend of Simi and Emi. At least I think, we will all remember the precious value of the salt 😊 After the ceremony, dinner was served and the celebration lightly begun. By an hour or so, when a music band hit the stage, the dance floor become fully occupied. And so it lasted until very late with Dj taking the party under control.

Dears, thank you for the invitation, we enjoyed your Day a lot! 😍

Zillertal

As we are both keen on slopes, we started to elaborate a plan, to go for snow trip together.

Agreement on a destination was an easy one and as the timeslot suddenly appeared, we were ready to go. Krzysztof arrived to Vienna midday of Friday, 2nd of December. In a half an hour, we were already heading to Finkenberg (Tirol) in Zillertal.

Opening the winter season on Saturday, we enjoyed perfect weather and well prepared slopes of Zillertal3000 among few other lucky ones.

On Sunday we wanted to conquer the Hintertux iceberg, however a bit stronger wind disallowed our ambitions. Despite that, we found some great tracks also in lower part of the iceberg.

On the 3rd day we opted to return into Zillertal3000 (Mayerhofen) instead of originally planned Hochfügen. It turned out to be a lucky pick as we met one of the best woman skier in the world!!😀 Oh, yes, we saw Mikaela Schiffrin preparing for training  at Unterbergalm station. 🥳 We won’t also forget the way down in the foggy afternoon, with visibility of less than 10 meters!

After that exciting day we still needed to get into Radstatd, which enables us to get to slopes and have shorter way back to Vienna on Tuesday. Although Krzysztof advised to take longer / more comfortable way through the Deutsche Ecke, I insisted to cross the Gerlos pass (1628 m). It was another memorable act for sure. Luckily, we get to Radstatd at the end.

On Tuesday we could accomplish our trip in great conditions on Schladming slopes, before returning to Vienna.

The Day – D

On 30th of July the big dream came true. It’s been 10 years since we are together and so we were looking forward to our wedding a lot.

In between us, it is indeed a very special – once in the lifetime occasion, but on the other hand, also a great celebration party with the whole family our friends, all the bellowed ones.

The preparations were not so easy as we tried to organise as much as possible remotely from Austria. But at least we did not feel the stress, which everyone suggested will be increasingly bearing on us with wedding approaching.  Instead, we were excited and looking forward for the celebration.

Although the final week, back in the hometown already, was a bit harsh, we were lucky to meet some extremely nice people helping us achieving our goal. Therefore, we are greatly thankful especially to Mrs. Vera, Mrs. Polozaniova, Mrs. Tothova, also to Mrs. Kabat, our band and dj and all the others making our wedding so perfect.

Last but not least, as the reaction given next day were more than positive, we feel very satisfied, knowing everyone enjoyed our wedding us much as we two did. Thank you everyone for coming! 😊

Táborisko, Počúvadlianské jazero

This time – “One time” – and no next time – in slovak.

Dobre bolo.

Senko chytil kovid, Andy tiež. Eči si zlomil kľúčnu kosť a čakal na operáciu.

Tomino staval “kadáfiho” vo štvrtok sám. V piatok nás bolo päť. Unavení, vyšťavení a zničení. Tešili sme sa na super počko a … na to naše Počko.

V sobotu bola zima, ale večer sme spravili skvelú párty. Všetkým sa páčila. V nedeľu ráno to bolo horšie. Večer čisté kino.

Šli sme ďalej, ďalej aj pôjdeme. Pondelok je vždy náročný. Dobre bolo. S priateľmi, vždy dobre je.

Camping at Bohinj lake

Slovenia, Triglav national park, beautiful lake of Bohinj. Camping in a stunning scenery? Yes of course, but not only… A well organised birthday part as well 😊

Fourteen of us came to the camping party, which took place between 3rd to 7th of June at the Bohinj lake. And the Friday’s party was hard and loud for sure 🤟

The day after, some managed to go up and visit Vogel peak, but the others were recovering in their beds. As the weather was nice, the cold lake water was just right refreshing.

Afterwards, we decided to see the popular Slavica waterfall, reaching it in approx. 1 hour walk from the camp.

For the last day of the camping adventure, the challenge was to paddle SUP across the lake and back (some 8km). It wasn’t that bad and I could record a total of 15km paddling in 2 days.

Saalbach – Hinterglemm

It’s been long 3 years which broke our favourite winter tradition of spending the skiing vacation with friends. As the pandemic situation ease a bit we could finally find a way to renew the habits.

Five of us; Tomas, Lenka, Senko, Andrej and me landed in Viehoffen on Sunday afternoon 6th of February. The chalet we booked, was just great for us! It had its own sauna plus a hot tube as a valuable bonus. After some heavy snowfalls on Monday, day and night, we were out for the action on Tuesday. Exploring the slopes, we soon understood how large the resort is. On Wednesday afternoon Miska joined us, driving all the way from Graz. The dream team was complete😊

Watching the winter Olympics in the evening we got eager to take on some of circus circuits. The conditions were great, slopes perfect and so some of us managed to ride for more than 120 downhill kms.

Korcula with friends

Maybe because we had so much time and there was still a plenty of accommodation to choose from due to the restrictions… from 30th of August to 9th of September we chose a place at Picena bay 😊 A place from which we had to run away in kind of emergency, on the very first night.

Afterwards, Miska found a remote house in Crnja Luka (Blato), which turned out to be our destination. Having our own house with direct access to sea and some nice terraces with great sea views, hot water and the gas- operating kitchen didn’t bother. With Tomas and Lenka willing to get on a boat we made two one day trips round the coast. Firstly, taking a boat from Vela Luka we explored western area and the island of Proizd. Latter we rented a boat in Prizba and cruised along the south coast.  Looking for paddle boarding and windsurfing eventually, we also made some car trips. Our favourite place turned out to be Pupnatska Luka.

For the way back, we decided to split the long route and stop by in Zadar. Zadar has a nice historical town centre with many fancy bars, unfortunately not open at night during the restrictions. The very last day, when Kiss family was already reaching home, we still went for some swimming and sunbathing at Kraljicina beach, by Nin. Croatia rules! 😊

Stiavnicky Kros Triatlon 2021

Well, it took the obligatory 3 attempts to finally participate in a sport event. Although I was not in a good shape and the biking section was questionable, the desire to take part in was strong.

As the beginning of race on 31st of July was shifted a bit due to bad weather, we had a chance to fill in the biker vacancy. Quite swiftly we met Ondrej, an enthusiastic PT teacher, who agreed to compete with us. Even quicker we got the need equipment for him.

The race started with a swimming part of 1km in Kolpassky Tajch, which Lenka has finished superbly.  Afterwards Ondrej took his 2 rounds of 25km cycling. Unfortunately, as he slipped and fell down on a muddy road in the 2nd round, our promising 10th place actualized to 14th position before running.

With my abilities, I had not much more options, than to try to catch and over-run the closest opponent on that 8km run. And that’s also how it finished; 13th place out of 17 participating relay teams. Not bad at all!

Tatliakova chata and Liptov

Asked by friends to join them hiking in Tatras, there’s no other than positive answer. Although the weather forecast looked dangerous, based on the advice of some more experienced, we got ready early morning on Thursday the 24th of June.

Starting at Ziarska dolina we soon reached Ziarska chata, where a decision had to be taken.  A group of 5, let’s say those having more energy to burn, went for the “chain track” above Banikov (2178 m) and Tri Kopy towards Smutne sedlo. The rest of us, we 2 and Tomas – who can enjoy the mountains also in relaxed way – went directly to Smutne sedlo. Continuing to Tatliakova chata, we stop by wonderful Rohacske pleso for some prohibited bathing 😊. The next day, on the way back, we decided to split again on Smutne sedlo. A half of us went to reach Placlivo (2125 m), while the rest took a straight downhill track.  Afterwards during the evening, we degusted some tasty barbeque .. and yes.. also party a bit 😉 So the other day – on Saturday, we just managed sunbathing on Liptovska Mara. Finally for Sunday we took  a recommended easy track from Demanovska jaskyna to Krakova Hola (1752 m) with lots of bear prints back to Lucky.

Cesta Hrdinov SNP

Stretching all the way from North-East to very West – almost through the whole country – the most important touristic route’s name stands for “Trail of the Slovak National Uprising Heroes”.

In regard to its length (approx. 760 km), one can obviously choose a part of it for hiking and not necessarily walk out for weeks. Tomas has done all the planning superbly.

Our journey begun in Donovaly and continued through the crest of Low Tatras towards Chopok. Oversleeping the first night in “Hiadelske sedlo” we changed the plan a little bit, so the shelter at “Durkova” was luckily switched by the last room in Magurka (the highest situated settlement in Slovakia). Although Chopok was not far away the next day, those cold weather conditions obstructed the way badly. Even a group of chammies watched us surprisingly coming that late in heavy fog.  We honestly deserved some comfy sleep at the premises of “Kamenná Chata”. For the last – 4th day there was just an easy downhill track to Certovica on the plan. However coming down limping with some bloody blisters, we had absolutely enough. Better results are promised next time!

Rackova Dolina Camping

Fascinated by the nature, camping is a very good way how to take pleasure of it. During the pandemic period and all the restrictions, one had a brilliant idea to try out camping site in Rackova Dolina, Slovakia.

Situated  just below the West Tatras in the area belonging to Pribylina, it is a perfect place to start all the various hiking and biking tracks. Just to be sure we survive our first camping experience, we decided to book a room in a kind of boarding – house there. It worked out well. All day long we were out for hiking. Later in the evening sitting by friend’s tents round the fireplace until late night. Then took some comfy sleeping inside 🙂

Although we did not accomplished our desired tour to Baranec peak, due to bit colder and worst conditions as expected, we truly fall for this camping by the mountains style.

Sölden

As a nice tradition within our group of friends, we go year by year for a winter skiing vacation. At the very first years, several times in row, we enjoyed Slovakian Jasná. Later on, not only due to climate changes, we moved a bit higher and visited Austrian resorts like Kitzbühel, Kaprun and Schladming. Suddenly there was this idea. Why not to go to Sölden? Yes, Tirol, yes faaar away… But, what could follow all those wonderful places?! Sölden. The truth is, it is somehow special. Not just because of Spectre and agent Bond, but surely because of those slopes. Amazing! To be there, one feels privileged. Thank you Sölden!

Barcelona

Down there to Spain again! It’s been a third time this year to none in the past. And why? Well, always for a different reason of course. Lately, between 14th and 18th of November, originally just to make a nice trip, but then also to celebrate Senko’s birthday.

Although we had quite a fair plan prepared, Barcelona turned out to be a bit too big and too interesting to manage all the scheduled highlights. Well, at least we picked up those like La Pedrera, Casa Batlo, Park Guell plus outer views of Familia Sagrada – all the great works of the greatest Antonio Gaudi. Not to forgot, we also enjoyed the Aquarium and Maritime museum and beautiful views from Monjuic and its castle. For the end of our trip, we couldn’t go any better than to Jazzsí club and experience a real flamenco fever.

Sziget Festival, Budapest

Summer and festivals somehow come together. This year we wanted to refresh some of the old memories and therefor went to Budapest. Sziget Festival on Island of Freedom, 9th and 10th of August. 2 Days of great music experience and more. With our friends Senko, Tomas & Julka and Wolfgang we enjoyed the performances of Lana Del Rey, Gorillaz, Parov Stelar, Bonobo and definitely also those others.

Kiss Wedding in Krasnany

The big day “D” for our friends Tomas and Lenka, that’s 23rd of June 2018. Wedding, by its nature is supposed to be a special event. When it takes place in a romantic castle of Krasnany, surrounded by a great garden and lasts for 2 days, then it definitely is a special one. Dear Kiss Family, thank you very much for the invitation, we enjoyed your celebration a lot!

Ibiza, Ibiza

Once there was a Stag party. Some may remember well, others maybe less but it has been accomplished. Early in the morning on 19th of May a group of 8 (so called “Kiss Army”) successfully boarded on a plane heading to Ibiza. Exciting 4 days of adventure were fulfilled at lunch on 23rd of May back at the same Airport. Such a huge mass of energy, passed by so quickly. Luckily no one’s got injured, nothing was harmed. We all enjoyed it and survived.
