Schönsten MTB Touren Kärntens

Yes, finally we made it and managed to get on the bikes… As this was not the first attempt, we decided wisely and properly on time, where to go. Several sites say, the most beautiful mountain bike tracks of Carinthia are around Weissensee, so we had a point to prove.

For our stay we booked a room at the OptimaMed place, which is not a typical hotel for sure, but for a reasonable price it offers a swimming pool and several saunas, great for regeneration.

The first track on Saturday 18th of May was called “Weiße Wand – Alm hinterm Brunn” and with its 22km was suppose to take about 2 hours. Maybe with an e-bike 😅 or in a dream. Those 800 uphill meters with White Wall and wonderful views on Weissensee took us 3 hours, 42 minutes. I was wasted already.

The second track on Sunday 19th of May was something like “Grosse Weisensee Runde” and with 34km it was really quite big. It has also more than 1000 uphill meters and we have stretched it to over 6 hours, with some longer breaks, because it was so beautiful. Afterwards we were truly wasted, but could retrieve some energy in OptimaMed wellness 😉

For the last day – Monday we did not cycle uphill anymore, but ride by the lake shore and took a rest on a small secret beach, somewhere opposite to Weisser Baum im Weissense 😊 For the conclusion, we say it’s possibly true, these tracks are really nice!

Early hiking in Turracherhöhe

This time we knew very well, why we are coming to Turracher. Since our visit a month ago, we wanted to spend here some more days and explore the area much deeper.

Being happy that we could take Miska’s mother and Jarko with us, we arrived to Little badger (rounded wooded chalet) on 1st of May. Originally, we were eager to bring our bikes, but as the weather got colder in the meantime, we targeted hiking instead.

First days, getting to know the place a bit better, we were walking around Schwarzsee and Grünsee in the beautiful pine tree forest. Actually, it’s a forest with highest density of pine trees in East Alps overall. Next days we visited Bad Kleinkirchheim (Kleinkirchheim Sonnenweg, Kirchheimer Talrunde) too. Afterwards, when the weather got bit better (unfortunately it was lightly raining most of the time), we plan a proper tour.  This was a 22km track from Barbarasiedlung via Schwarzsee to Engele Riegeland (1976 m) (it seemed we were the first ones this year, at least according to the noticebook. Then, due to snow conditions, we had to continue off the track to Kaser Höhe (2318 m) and to Gruft (2232 m). Afterwards we descended to Shönebennock (2002 m) and took some rest at Vastlhutte am Sam. The rest of the track was an easy part then via Grünsee back to Barbarasiedlung. Altogether, being away for more than 6 hours, hiking 989 uphill meters, this was the longest track we have done so far.💪😎

Easter Schnäppchen

For this year’s Easter, we were pretty undecided, how and where to spend it. Winter was not almost gone and spring was second next doors behind. It was not cold enough for skiing, but not too warm for hiking. Having our little Berry with us, the choice of accommodation is always more limited.

For sure, we’re deeply in love with all the wooden cottages, so I started to search for one, that would be available for those few Easter days. Based on the criteria, we found a tiny little one (just suitable for a couple) – a dog friendly chalet in Almdorf Seinerzet, just below the Falkertsee. Upon the advertised bonus 3+1, we called the reception to check the availability. To our big surprise, we were literally told, that the price for 3 nights is the same as for 4 nights. But when we actually booked 4 nights, it was for the price of 2 😃 The lady just said, it’s a price coming from system and that it’s a real Schnäppchen (bargain) 🤣

Well, the chalet (nr. 4) was absolutely gorgeous. We loved it! ❤️ The breakfast service was amazing and Berry had a private terrace to play on. The place is set in Nockberge Unesco Biosphere park, full of opportunities to be explored. Hiking in the snow around the Falkertsee – yes with Berry😊was the first to come. We visited the neighbouring places – Bad Kleinkirchheim, Turracher Höhe next and managed to take several additional hikes in the wonderful nature of Nockberge. The last day was a bit tough, as we were hit with a rain, somewhere in the forest and needed to rescue our wet – cold shaky Berry fast. She got a warm treatment in the chalet, so all went happy at the end.

Silvester in Dachstein West

Very sad days separated Christmas and the New Year’s Eve of the year 2023. With all the sorrow it was hard to decide whether to go anywhere or not.

We decided for a journey very late.

Warmly welcomed by our friends at a lovely chalet in Dachstein West – Chalet Dorf, we felt instantly better. And how good was the decision to join them, turned out in the following days. The place was really cosy, just a stone throw from a slope and the surrounding of rocky mountains is truly magnificent.

We went skiing, snowboarding in the morning, then relaxed in our private finish sauna and spent the evenings playing games and having various interesting chats together. Balsamic effect for a sore soul.

With our honey, little Berry and Diego the cat in the house, we had a lot of fun too. Dear friends thank you for another great experience, wonderful New Year’s Eve party (with unforgettable photo shooting) and lovely days spent with you.

Sunny days under Schneeberg – very late report

Well, sometimes it just doesn’t go the way you plan. Upon our arrival from the yachting adventure, we suddenly had a bunch of troubles to be solved, with the puppy… As she was barely walking, not very into running anymore, we took her to a hospital. Unfortunately, the little dog was diagnosed a very rare (less than 2%) patella luxation a needed a surgery asap.

We on the other hand, have our second half of the vacation cancelled and were seeking for a reliable pet doctor. The first knee was successfully operated on 1st of September and the quarantine regime has begun. With the first week isolated in a playpen, we all needed a rehabilitation in the land. There we found this lovely place under the Schneeberg, called Rohrbach im Graben.

Even though we had to split the activities, one took guard on Berry – the other one was free, we still quite liked our stay. Paddleboarding alone on the lake, running round and round the lake, hiking towards the peaks, plus Miska’s trip to Schneeberg are our nice memories. But more important this time, was to keep the puppy curing safe.

Klippitztörl – more than a weekend

Although this short vacation was planned well in advanced, it did not start that smooth at all.

On Thursday morning, 29th of June, I had to be in Bratislava for a first meeting with customer, which at least finished an hour earlier as scheduled.

Afterwards I was free to drive back to Graz. Arriving at late afternoon, packing all the stuff and the new bikes on a new premium bike rack for the first time, we were ready to leave for Klippitztörl.

Luckily Mr. Münzer was very nice and came to pick us up from the car park even at 8:00 pm.

Finally, our short vacation could begin. Welcomed by our friends, we had a lovely and cosy evening.

Friday was already a sport’s day and we managed to cycle some 10kms with 500m uphill.

As Saturday was little bit rainy, we did just 1 hour hiking and then rested in our wonderful Panorama Hütte facilitated with sauna. Sunday weather however was sunnier, so we could accomplish the almost 20kms great mountain bike route in Reichenfels stretching up to 1400m before falling down to the village again.

LIDO Sounds Linz

Since the news announcing the acts, we knew, we’re going to go for it. The compilation of Anna Calvi, Alt-J, Interpol + Florence & Machine was too strong to hold back. And if you can see all of them during a day, there is no room to hesitate.

The LIDO Sounds festival took place on a bank of Danube River in the centre of Linz. As it is a city festival, with no option to oversleep in a camp, it makes it really hard to find a reasonable hotel with any available room.

Thanks to Austrian law, allowing you to have a beer and still drive responsibly, we decided to stay in Marchtrenk and a place called hotel Fischer (10 of 10 definitely!) From there it was just a 15 mins drive to the festival are.

Unfortunately, we missed the early performing Anna Calvi, as the distance from Graz to Linz still takes some time, but were just on time to kick off Alt-J. However next to the second song there was an interception announced, due to a storm coming up.

Afterwards, once the clouds were gone, Alt-J finished their set and we moved on for Interpol. A gig I enjoyed a lot. Nevertheless, the headliner was still to come. And Florence doesn’t disappoint for sure. Her concert was energetic, peaceful and great.

And such was our first Linz experience.

Easter in Klosterle

There are still so many places we haven’t visited yet in Austria. One of the most unknown places for us is the region Carinthia.

Looking for a place to stay, we found this small house in Klosterle a remote part of Arriach. The very comfortable, one bedroom cottage lies in the Klosterle monastery area, but more importantly also just a stone throw from the ski lift. Great, quite couple accommodation, ideal for skiing days.

The first day upon our arrival, we were so much amazed of the place, that we managed just a short Rundwanderweg in nearby Verditz.

On Friday, the weather was beautiful, fully sunny and so we went to try out the Gerlitzen Alpen slopes. Starting on our side we managed to ride through the resort and recorded 33 piste km. As that was a really lovely day we went for an additional 6 km hiking later that afternoon.

On Saturday the weather changed completely, therefore we opted for hiking. Miska chose the so called Mirnock Kneip Rundwanderweg, a thematic route above the Milstatter See, some 14 km long.

As Sunday was again full of clouds and even foggy, we did another hiking trip. The middle point of Carinthea can be reached from Arriach centre. Afterwards there are more options to take, also using the famous Adria – Alpe route. Our statistics showed over 14 km and almost 800 uphil meters.

The sun showed up on Monday, so we were up for a ride again, the last one in the season. And yet

another 30 km of fun on the slopes.   Unfortunately, we needed to leave the lovely part of Carinthia on Tuesday, but we did not left it before visiting the banks of Ossiacher See.

Brixen im Thale skiing vacation

For this year’s skiing vacation we did not manage to convince any of our friends, therefore we had to enjoy it on our own.

Still within a plenty of untasted resorts in Austria we decided to go for Tirol and a place called Brixen im Thale. The “SkiWelt” resort there, accessible from few other villages as well (Söll, Westendorf, Ellmanu, Scheffau), offers total of 270 piste km. With the mountains reaching “only” up to 1829m, the slopes are pretty wide, still passing by forests and in majority blue to red. So, all in all… just great, at least for a backcountry snowboarder 😃

Yes, with the accommodation, we were pretty lucky, I would say. A tiny little wooden “Hauschen” with 2 bedrooms and a modern kitchen, was more we than could have hoped for.  And Miska had an interesting Farm excursion by the owner too! 😊 Maybe as a result, she then ordered us a daily fresh milk delivery, which was very tasty in deed.

During those lovely Tirolian days, when sun was shining and weather was mild we recorded an average of 27 piste km a day in 5 consecutive sessions. More than enough to be pretty wasted!

To get some well-deserved treatment, we headed to the near by “Panorama Badewelt” located in St. Johan in Tirol.

Zillertal

As we are both keen on slopes, we started to elaborate a plan, to go for snow trip together.

Agreement on a destination was an easy one and as the timeslot suddenly appeared, we were ready to go. Krzysztof arrived to Vienna midday of Friday, 2nd of December. In a half an hour, we were already heading to Finkenberg (Tirol) in Zillertal.

Opening the winter season on Saturday, we enjoyed perfect weather and well prepared slopes of Zillertal3000 among few other lucky ones.

On Sunday we wanted to conquer the Hintertux iceberg, however a bit stronger wind disallowed our ambitions. Despite that, we found some great tracks also in lower part of the iceberg.

On the 3rd day we opted to return into Zillertal3000 (Mayerhofen) instead of originally planned Hochfügen. It turned out to be a lucky pick as we met one of the best woman skier in the world!!😀 Oh, yes, we saw Mikaela Schiffrin preparing for training  at Unterbergalm station. 🥳 We won’t also forget the way down in the foggy afternoon, with visibility of less than 10 meters!

After that exciting day we still needed to get into Radstatd, which enables us to get to slopes and have shorter way back to Vienna on Tuesday. Although Krzysztof advised to take longer / more comfortable way through the Deutsche Ecke, I insisted to cross the Gerlos pass (1628 m). It was another memorable act for sure. Luckily, we get to Radstatd at the end.

On Tuesday we could accomplish our trip in great conditions on Schladming slopes, before returning to Vienna.

Wals nearby Salzburg

15th of October 2022, our 11th Anniversary! first one after the wedding! Here it comes… 🤪

This time we combined the “activities” and did it very well! 😊First of all, it was another MKG conference held in Salzburg, which Miska wanted to attend, and I needed a break to reinforce before those final mapping handovers. Secondly, more importantly, we keep the tradition and spend our weekend relaxing and enjoying ourselves one for another. In Wals we booked a family hotel, called Gabi, which was full by no surprise. All those beautiful natural places in the area are attracting tourists basically the whole year round … and not forget the landmarks of Salzburg. Those natural treasures are the reason why we like the area a lot. We managed to explore one of them on the way back. The Berchtesgaden is a German National Park (Bavaria) featuring a wonderful Konigsee. The recommended way to enjoy it, is to take a boat trip and then walk around Obersee. Beautiful autumn times guaranteed 😊

Saalbach – Hinterglemm

It’s been long 3 years which broke our favourite winter tradition of spending the skiing vacation with friends. As the pandemic situation ease a bit we could finally find a way to renew the habits.

Five of us; Tomas, Lenka, Senko, Andrej and me landed in Viehoffen on Sunday afternoon 6th of February. The chalet we booked, was just great for us! It had its own sauna plus a hot tube as a valuable bonus. After some heavy snowfalls on Monday, day and night, we were out for the action on Tuesday. Exploring the slopes, we soon understood how large the resort is. On Wednesday afternoon Miska joined us, driving all the way from Graz. The dream team was complete😊

Watching the winter Olympics in the evening we got eager to take on some of circus circuits. The conditions were great, slopes perfect and so some of us managed to ride for more than 120 downhill kms.

Salzburg from Anif

It was a dedicated trip to Salzburg for Miska and a special business trip for me. In between 11th and 13th of August we found ourselves in the premises of wonderful Friesacher hotel. Luckily asking for a quite room for work, we got one of the very few best rooms with its own sauna by the balcony. It was definitely one of the best, if not ultimately the best hotel room we ever got in Austria!

Having great choice breakfast, doing the usual office work, and then heading to pool in the garden…

Besides that, one have to say this small Anif town is a gorgeous place. Featuring medieval castle, river spot for surfers, Salzburg Zoo, Hellbrunn Castle and many other highlights, it certainly has many sparkling stars.

Although Michalka’s meeting in Salzburg hospital was not so successful, we did not regret it. Walking down the city’s streets the last day, we realized, that it’s far away from a place to stay on a longer basis.

Weekend in Almtal

On the 2nd weekend of 2021 we went for a little bit of snow action, although it was not absolutely legal, sort to say. Luckily as a company we always have to go for some business trips.

Arriving on Friday, we spent the evening walking in empty Scharnstein streets. On Saturday, we performed a bit late wake-up, to be fit for the new year’s downhills. Kasberg in Grünen am Almtal has 3 main cabin lifts, with plenty of slopes on sides. If everything is open, you won’t be bored riding for 2 to 3 days. In the evening we relaxed having our own private wellness session. Everything was set up perfectly. Sauna, aroma scents, meditation music, rainy shower, rocking comfy chairbeds..

On Sunday we left the apartment, heading directly back to slopes. We managed to ride until the closing times. 😊

Aflenz Kurort

Well, it’s exactly 9 consecutive years that we celebrate 15th of October. Year by year we go for our weekend and enjoy it just us two.

This time we combined the booking, as I picked up the destination and then Miska chose the best available accommodation.

Just by a lucky hit we end up on the most beautiful track of the year the day we arrived. At least that’s what the official banner said. Frequent pit stops with heavy and light drinks were guaranteed. For the day after, we went on for some proper hiking. Our goal was Fölzstein (1946 m) a rocky peak situated just next to Fölzkogel (highest in the region). The track started by Fölzalm – a narrow gate in between huge stones above the creek.  Later by the river basin and through the inner valley we reached “Grasser Hütte“.  From here the last and hardest hour of the trail begun. Although we were not further then approx. 50 height meters from the top, we decided not risk and rather leave the goal away. Going down, taking a round through forest we reached the car by dark. How typical.

Altaussee and Loser

The 2nd part of our skiing vacation took place between 22nd and 26th of February in Puchen (Altaussee). Just next door from Bad Aussee, the geographical middle point of Austria. The scenery here, with the lakes mirroring the surrounding rocky mountains is very special.

Also during the winter times one can take the 7,5 km walk around the Altausee and experience the beauty of the nature. Above the lake and those tall rocks -> to the north, there is a resort called Loser. Yes, funny enough to try it out… but don’t put your expectations too high! If the weather is so – so, the recommendation would be to stick with Tauplitz. It’s still only 15 min drive away. On the other hand, if the conditions are just ideal, perhaps Loser won’t be that occupied.

Mitterndorf / Tauplitz

This year’s ski vacation was not the usual friend’s happening, but a bit more romantic trip instead.

The Tauplitz ski resort with its 43 kms of slopes, is located just 250 kms to the west from Vienna. So it takes you some 2 hours and 40 minutes to drive there.

From the 2 possible ski starting points, we recommend to take the “Gondolbahn”. It is reachable by Tauplitzalmstrasse curling uphill from the village of Mitterndorf. By this gondola you reach the top of Mittersteinbahn (1914 m) and can then enjoy the ride down for approx. 10 minutes.

In case one would fancy just to go for “langlaufen”, there are plenty of “Loipe” nearby too.  And if even that is not enough, you can also try one of the pretty winter Wanderweg directly from Mitterndorf.

Sulz Rundwanderweg

Yet another day with a very good hiking conditions! As it could have been the last time in the year, with no hesitation, on 23rd of November we went for a track again.

There is a small village called Sulz im Wienerwald, reachable at only 30 km away of city. Arriving there, one may notice several tours on the offer. We decided for an easy, a little over 12 km short track, leading to nearby Wöglerin and back. Heading towards north, over a small range of hills, we came to the highest point in 588 m a.s.l. Through a very well organised forest, crossing some horse paths we turned around in Wöglerin. From there, across the hummocks, along some settlements in less than 3,5 hours we were back. And then, there was not much more to walk for, as the tasty Renate´s Postschänke restaurant is based on the main street.

Gaaden and Pottenstein over the weekend

Instead of setting down on a specific place, this time we went for 2 diverse tours. For Saturday 2nd of November we chose a short approx. 6 km track around the place called Gaaden. The tour took us firstly to Schlosslwald then to a nearby village of Siegenfeld. From there by Waldwiesen, we came back to Gaaden. Meeting the mysterious priest in the darkness of his church, we were ready to go home.
For the next day, a bit longer track was planned. Originally estimated 10 km, we extended by another 3 or so. This route started in a town of Pottenstein and headed us up by Haselbach and Hubertushutte to a small hill and a point named Rettes Kreuz. Later taking a small loop, we approached the Pottenstein again. For a well-deserved dinner, we drove to Waldhutte Guglzipf sitting above the town of Berndorf. The hill with restaurant features a 34 meters high Jubiläumswarte build by Habsburgs in 1908.

Kienberg bei Gaming – Gaming – Reinsberg

From 18th to 20th of October, this is our own special weekend of the year. On Friday afternoon we reached the hotel in Kienberg bei Gaming. After having a dinner, we went out into the streets of Gaming to explore the place.  The most popular or famous site would be the Gaming Charterhouse – a monastery found in 1330, which still serves as hotel and Franciscan University nowadays.

On Saturday we took the approx. 20 km long “Auf der Gföhleralm” tour with highest point at 1296 m. Well exhausted, we enjoyed the delicious dinner in the near “Kulturdorf” Reinsberg.

The next day we were on the track again. However due to foggy conditions and some fatigue of previous day, we could only manage a circa 10 km tour in Reinsberg’s soundings. This tour included Reinsberg Burg Ruine among the heavy fog and other highlights.

Before heading back to Vienna, we sat down at “Landgasthaus Stadler” once again. Having had some more dinner delights, the weekend pleasure could be satisfied.

Kaumberg Themen Wanderwege

Beautiful warm weather on 15th of September had to be spent outside in the countryside. As close as 57km from Vienna lays a small village of Kaumber. Walking down the village, one can notice a few great villas, making the place yet more attractive. However our interest in this place was taken by the Wanderwege.

Firstly the Hanh Rundwanderweg with its 6,5 kms took us to south of the village and then 1 km shorter Fuchs Rundwanderweg showed us the northern hills of the village. As there are still more animal tours to go, plus the nearby castle ruins (the highest in Niedrösterreich 🙂 to explore, we are likely to return later on.

Easter sunny bunny Easter

Usually we used to spend the Easter days up there on slopes. This year as the bunny days were postponed to late April, we had to go for an alternative. And we found a proper one. A place called Gaalgraben, just where the road carrying the same name ends. No traffic, no pollution and almost no people. I think it has happened for the first time to us, that we were accommodated completely alone. In a medium size brand new and just great hotel. In the middle of Mother Nature. What else would have we been looking for? Lots of hiking tracks a piece of history, oh yes Red Bull Ring was also included. And at the end we certainly couldn’t go any better than Aqualux in Fohnsdorf.

Rohr im Gebirge Themen Wanderwege

On a lovely Saturday afternoon 6th of April we decided to relax a bit in the nature again. Wisely we went just behind the corner to a close Zellenbach valley. Small village called Rohr im Gebirge offers nice and quality rooms in Kaiser Franz Josef hotel, which is also an ideal point to start the hiking tracks. From here the two Themen Wanderwege (Werkstatt Wald und Wasser and Sagenumwobener Tümpflweg) would be recommended. And if that wouldn’t be enough, you can still explore the nature around Pernitz and undergo the so called Biedermeier Erlebnisweg. With this set up, you easily end up with 36 kms of beautiful tracks accomplished.

Präbichl from Vordernberg

Here we go, on the snow again! Between 8th and 10th of March we took also our friends, the Kiss Family and went, this time a bit further away, to check out the place called Präbichl. This well organised resort offers some 20 kms of mainly reddish slopes, situated on 2 opposed hills covered by forest. As an accommodation we may recommend the Alepnaquarium apartment in near Vordernberg. From here there are plenty possibilities for hiking as well. A tip for an after skiing walk would be a visit of Eisenerz town, old mining place, with it’s interesting sights, especially the Kirchenburg st. Oswald and Eisenerzer Schichtturm.

Stuhleck from Altenberg an der Rax

Take your ski, grab my board …let’s go! For a weekend shorter than usual, between 22nd and 24th of February we have to go somewhere really close. The closest reasonable resort reachable from Vienna is Stuhleck.  Though quite tough to find a place to stay, we luckily end up in a nice Gasthaus called “Altenbergerhof” almost at the end of world .. erhh, well end of Altenbergar Bach Tal. And still only 18 kilometres away from Stuhleck slopes!!  The resort offers some 26 kms of good and funny slopes.  However due to its location, it is a bit crowded there, especially on Saturdays.

Lackenhof from Lunz am See

This season there is plenty of snow and perfect skiing conditions. There are many resorts quickly reachable from Vienna, among the others Lackenhof. During the 2nd February w/end we picked up an accommodation in a close town called Lunz am See, some 10kms away from Lackehof slopes. The Land Hotel Zellerhof we can recommend for it’s wide and tasty eating options plus pleasant modern wellness. On the other hand the Lackenhof slopes spreading on Grösser and Kleiner Ötscher offer some 19kms of red and blue tracks well suitable for all.

Sölden

As a nice tradition within our group of friends, we go year by year for a winter skiing vacation. At the very first years, several times in row, we enjoyed Slovakian Jasná. Later on, not only due to climate changes, we moved a bit higher and visited Austrian resorts like Kitzbühel, Kaprun and Schladming. Suddenly there was this idea. Why not to go to Sölden? Yes, Tirol, yes faaar away… But, what could follow all those wonderful places?! Sölden. The truth is, it is somehow special. Not just because of Spectre and agent Bond, but surely because of those slopes. Amazing! To be there, one feels privileged. Thank you Sölden!

Stuttgart – Luzern – Innsbruck

There was a long awaited need for a business trip to Stuttgart. It has already been planned for 26th of October (Austrian National Day). Luckily the trip could also happen and was prolonged a bit at the end. Arriving to Stuttgart was a kind of blow due to the massive constrictions in the middle of the city and a noticeable smog coming not only from the works. Despite this small disruption we could do and accomplish the business.

The way back we took a byway through Switzerland and stopped by the town of Luzern. This is a nice old town with many landmarks and of course streets full of quality watches, jewellery and more. Also a nice place called Jazzkantine.

The next day we drove towards home and overslept in Innsbruck. Also, for the first time in here, we had to see all its beauty. And it definitely is worth of it. To explore the city – Central Hotel was a very convenient choice.

Ötscher from Gössing

Since the year 2011 we remember 15th of October very well. We do also commemorate the day and usually spend the closest weekend to enjoy it. This year we choose a tiny little place called Gössing (or Gössing an der Mariazeller Bahn in full) which consists of 1 or 2 farm houses and a great old fashioned hotel. The better side of the hotel offers rooms with a wonderful view to Ötscher (from Slavic Otče = Father) peak. It’s also a perfect place to start various tours around. One we would definitely recommend is the Ötschergraben tour (known as Austrian Grand Canyon) which can be performed during one day also in combination with lunch at the Vorderötscher Schutzhaus.

Walk around Lindkogel

Lovely warm weather on 6th of October invited us to visit the nature. We picked up the near and easy “Badener Lindkogel Wanderweg” and extended its suggested 7,6 km by another three or so. Especially the extension to Rauheneck castle ruins was a good choice as from the preserved castle tower, some beautiful views can be enjoyed. On the way back down the hill, we stopped by a place called Vila Eugen. This is basically a “schloss” lately occupied by Erzherzog Eugen descendant of Maria Theresia. Nowadays something like hypnotisation and soul correction could be found there.

Laxenburg park

10th of June, another sunny day here in Vienna. Although the Brazilian national football team came to play a friendly with the “österreichische elf”, we decided to go outside the city. As close as 25 km lies a small town of Laxenburg with its beautiful park. The dominant in the park is a Franzensburg castle situated on an island in the middle of castle tajch. The best way, how to enjoy the view on castle (favourite summer residence of Habsburgs), is to rent a motor boat and explore the tajch.

Sankt Gallen, Gesäuse

And the first post is here! Please enjoy. Longer Austrian weekend from 10th to 13th of May we spent in a small village of Sankt Gallen (Styria, not the one in Switzerland 8) which is a part of Gesäuse National Park. We have been hiking in the park and completed around 40 km, all mainly uphill. A beautiful piece of country!
