Endinburgh, Scotland

This was a trip desired by my good friend Wolfgang. He wanted to visit Scotland for some time and as this period of year suited me too, we didn’t hesitate. Reaching the capital Edinburgh on Thursday afternoon, was not a big surprise. Cold and rainy day presented the picture of this old medieval city very well. At least the royal mile (road connecting the Castle and Holyroodhouse Palace) was almost empty, allowing us to study all those medieval buildings precisely. Btw, some of the houses are the first tall buildings in the world, reaching up to 9 stores in the 16th century. For the next day we rented a small car, to see a piece of the country. Heading towards Glasgow we soon arrived to Balloch a gate to Loch Lomond and its national park. Lovely place, where easily several days can be spent. Next we stop by a town called Stirling, disposing a fortress on top of the hill. Later on we approached the North Sea by Kirkcaldy, but decided to go further north and see the famous Ellie Ness Lighthouse. From here returning back to capital, we visited two more places; Standing Stones of Lundin and Pettycur beach. The last check point of that day was Forth Bridge, one of the most iconic Scottish structures. Our final day we dedicated to Edinburgh entirely. Seeing Holyroodhouse Palace from inside, outside + above, Royal Observatory, Elephant house and the Calton monument hill completely satisfied our visit.
