Finally, starting with 10th of May there was a free weekend for all of us and a good opportunity to test the new Scarpa hiking shoes.
As I had a certain route in my mind for quite some time, we did not need to search for one this time. The parking in Tyrnau– starting point for the track – at only 42 km away from Graz makes the selection very convenient.
From here the Rote Wand track takes you by the marked route 747 towards Röthelstein and on top of the Rote Wand itself.
The whole track is supposed to be 7,35 km long with 501 uphill meters (just a good training portion) and should be done within 4 hours. We had our Berry with us, but anyway needed to take several breaks to enjoy the surroundings and extended views once the route’s peak (1505 mm) was sealed.
